ATS AFRICA successfully resolved a critical issue at A Major Food Processing Plant in Boksburg, Johannesburg. A 100-foot-tall soybean meal silo had suffered severe material buildup, obstructing its auger equipment and halting operations.

CLIENT NEED:

The agricultural plant urgently required cleanup services for their silo. The solidified soybean meal inside had caused a significant blockage. ATS AFRICA was contracted to inspect the structure, develop a removal
strategy, and perform the cleanup. Cardox blasting was chosen as the safest and most effective solution.

ACCESS:

ATS AFRICA mobilised on the silo's roof and utilised rope access techniques to closely inspect and administer cleanup solutions.

SOLUTION:

The crew conducted a thorough inspection, including Schmidt Hammer readings, to assess the blockage. Cardox blasting, utilising pressurised CO2, effectively dislodged buildup. Strategic holes were drilled for Cardox shots, ensuring remote blasting work without endangering workers. The BinWhip pneumatic system was used to further break up material.

RESULTS:

ATS AFRICA successfully cleared nearly 380 tons of blockage over several weeks. Post-cleanup inspections ensured safe operation. Additional repairs, such as Waterproofing and coating of the roof section , were also
